Getting Started
How do I add a document?
Tap the + button on the home screen. You can scan a physical document with your camera, import a PDF or image from your files, or pull a photo from your photo library. Papermind will classify it automatically — no tagging needed.
What file types does Papermind support?
PDFs, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and TIFF. If you import an image, Papermind converts it to a searchable document automatically.
How does automatic classification work?
Papermind uses on-device machine learning to read and understand your document — its type, date, and content. Everything happens on your device. Nothing is sent to a server for processing.
Search & Organisation
How do I find a document?
Type anything into the search bar — a keyword, a date, a name, a document type. Papermind searches the full text of every document you've stored, not just file names.
Can I rename or recategorise a document?
Yes. Open any document, tap the edit icon, and update the name or category. Your change is saved instantly and locally.
How do I delete a document?
Swipe left on a document in the list and tap Delete, or open the document and use the options menu. Deletion is permanent and immediate — documents are not moved to a trash folder.
Privacy & Storage
Where are my documents stored?
On your device, in an encrypted database. They never leave your phone unless you explicitly enable cloud backup. We have no access to your documents.
Does the app work without an internet connection?
Yes. Scanning, importing, searching, and browsing all work fully offline. An internet connection is only needed if you choose to use optional cloud backup.
What happens to my documents if I delete the app?
If you have not enabled cloud backup, your documents are deleted along with the app — they exist only on your device. If you have enabled cloud backup, your encrypted backup remains on our servers until you delete it from Settings → Backup → Delete Backup, or contact us to request deletion.
Can Papermind read my documents?
No. Documents are processed entirely on your device. If you enable cloud backup, documents are encrypted on your device before upload — we store the encrypted blob and cannot decrypt or read it.
Backup & Export
How do I set up cloud backup?
Go to Settings → Backup and follow the steps. You'll be asked for your email address to authenticate via a one-time code. Your documents are encrypted on your device before they leave it.
How do I restore from a backup?
Install Papermind on a new device, go to Settings → Backup → Restore, and sign in with the same email address. You'll need your recovery phrase to decrypt your documents.
How do I export a document?
Open the document and tap the share icon. You can save it to Files, AirDrop it, or send it via any app on your device. Documents export as PDFs.
Subscriptions
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to Settings on your iPhone → tap your name → Subscriptions → Papermind. You can cancel or change your plan there at any time.
What happens to my documents if my subscription lapses?
Your documents stay on your device. You keep access to everything you've already scanned and stored. Premium features (such as cloud backup and unlimited storage) are paused until the subscription is renewed.
I was charged but the app isn't recognising my subscription.
Go to Settings → Restore Purchases. If the issue persists, write to us at papermind@likemeapp.com with your Apple ID email and we'll sort it out.
